NY Aichi Kenjinkai proudly presents a screening of Raise the Castle! (Chikujo Seyo!) with English subtitles on Friday October 2. All are welcome to this screening and networking event. Refreshments are included in the admission fee.
About the movie: The story unfolds in a small city in rural Aichi Prefecture near the ruins of Sanage Castle. The city residents wish to restore the castle to revitalize the local community, but the city administration wants to invite businesses for more tax income. In the midst of this conflict, there suddenly appear the spirits of three samurai who died 400 years ago with a leftover grudge against this world. These spirits command the people to restore the castle. However, they can only stay in this world for a few days, which is not enough time to restore the castle properly, so the spirits and residents decide to rebuild it with cardboard boxes. Rising kabuki star Ainosuke Ichikawa plays the lead role as the commanding samurai general. The Aichi Institute of Technology sponsored the production of this movie, and its students and many Sanage residents volunteered as participants. The short version of this movie, directed and produced by Yo Kohatsu, was awarded Best Foreign Language Film at the San Fernando Valley International Film Festival in 2006. This longer version was produced in 2009. ******************* Date: October 2, 2015 (Friday) Doors open: 6:30 pm Movie starts: 7:00 pm Reception: 9-10:00 pm Place: Japanese American Association of New York 49 W. 45th St. 11th Fl, New York City Ticket: General: Advance $20, at door $25 Student: Advance $10, at door $15 Registration: Please email to [email protected] Link to the facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/145835735753220 Link to the movie: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FQ6xsbYUp0 |
